UKGBC announces new organisational partners to support our mission

The UK Green Building Council (UKGBC) is delighted to announce that Buro Happold, Hoare Lea, and Lloyds Banking Group have become its first Organisational Partners. These new partners have been leading Keystone members of the UKGBC for many years, bringing expertise in areas closely aligned with the council’s mission.
This announcement comes at a critical time, following the election of a new UK government and amidst significant challenges in meeting decarbonisation targets in the built environment.
The Organisational Partners will provide valuable expertise and resources to support key UKGBC programmes, including Advancing Net Zero, Resilience and Nature, Learning and Leadership, and Regenerative Places. They will also serve as a strategic sounding board on cross-cutting themes such as retrofit, industry transformation, and systems change.
This new group is convened by UKGBC Chief Executive Smith Mordak, who will draw on their insights and expertise as UKGBC develops its strategy to 2030.
Smith Mordak said:
I’m excited to celebrate the cross-cutting input and engagement these three organisations bring to UKGBC. We recognise that addressing the interconnected environmental and socio-economic crises requires systemic thinking. This new partnership category not only acknowledges the deep and enduring engagement of these organisations, but also helps us intentionally bridge thematic work areas and identify powerful leverage points for change.”
Duncan Price, Partner, Global Sustainability & Climate Lead at Buro Happold said:
As a pioneer and founding member of UKGBC, we have always seen the value of investing in collaboration and being at the forefront of shaping the agenda. Being an Organisational Partner consolidates and enhances our work across multiple impact areas and allows us to have a greater strategic influence and impact across the sector.”
Ashley Bateson, Director at Hoare Lea said:
Hoare Lea is proud to be a long-standing supporter of UKGBC’s Advancing Net Zero and Resilience and Nature Programmes. Becoming an organisational partner with UKGBC is a natural progression for us and a great opportunity to promote their work. We look forward to collaborating with others to continue championing a sustainable built environment.”
David Willock, Managing Director, Sustainability & ESG Finance, Corporate & Institutional Banking, at Lloyds Banking Group said:
As a long-standing Keystone Partner and Programme Partner of Advancing Net Zero, we are delighted to be a founding UKGBC Organisational Partner. As one of the largest lenders to the UK built environment, we recognise the key role we can play in supporting the sector’s transition and welcome the systems thinking approach underpinning this new partnership model which aligns with our sustainability strategy.”
At UKGBC, we are enormously appreciative of the support from all our organisational, programme, and project partners and are committed to continuing to represent the breadth of the built environment industry through our guidance, advocacy, and more.
While this new partnership formation is intended to remain small and focused, we are open to a small number of additional partners, particularly to broaden representation across the built environment value chain.
