UKGBC’s Simon McWhirter, Deputy CEO and Director of External Affairs, has been welcomed onto the board of Scotland’s national Innovation Centre for construction and the built environment, BE-ST.

Simon’s addition to the board is part of a move from BE-ST to diversify the expertise on their board in order to steer the delivery of its mission to accelerate the built environment’s transition to zero carbon. He is one of 13 new additions, joining leaders from across the industry who all bring a unique perspective and expertise to the challenge at hand.

This appointment to the board follows a partnership between BE-ST and UKGBC as part of UKGBC Scotland’s work. This partnership was announced in July 2022, and has a focus on accelerating retrofit and reducing embodied carbon in Scotland.

Simon McWhirter, UKGBC’s Deputy Chief Executive and lead for UKGBC Scotland, said:

We’re always looking to work with partners who can help pull the powerful levers of change needed to radically improve the sustainability of the built environment. In Scotland, BE-ST is eminently positioned to offer that. Strategically keyed in across the Scottish construction and innovation space; and I look forward to helping drive that forward both in Scotland and elsewhere across the UK.”
