Lead Change
The transition to a sustainable built environment is not only a technical challenge. It is a leadership challenge. Delivering meaningful change requires people who can work across boundaries, influence others, navigate uncertainty, and create the conditions in which new ideas and approaches can succeed. UKGBC’s leadership training helps professionals develop the mindsets, behaviours, and capabilities needed to lead change across projects, teams, organisations, and the wider built environment.
Who is this learning for?
You don’t need to have “sustainability” or “leader” in your job title to lead change.
Leadership can happen wherever someone has the opportunity to influence decisions, challenge established ways of working, connect people around a shared purpose or turn an ambitious idea into action. Our leadership training supports professionals at different stages of their careers – from emerging leaders developing their influence to senior executives shaping organisational strategy, culture, and investment.

What will you develop?
Different programmes provide different experiences, but our leadership learning can help you strengthen your ability to:
- Lead through complexity, uncertainty, and change
- Influence and engage people across different roles and perspectives
- Connect sustainability ambition with organisational action
- Think systemically about interconnected challenges
- Collaborate across organisational and sector boundaries
- Challenge established assumptions and ways of working
- Build resilience, confidence, and clarity as a leader
Create the conditions for lasting organisational change.

Learning that changes how you lead
Leadership development is about more than acquiring knowledge. Our programmes create a space to reflect, challenge your thinking, learn from others, and apply new perspectives to the real leadership challenges you face. Depending on the programme, this can include experiential learning, expert facilitation, peer learning, coaching, collaborative challenges and opportunities to test new approaches in practice. The result is learning designed not simply to inform, but to influence how you think, behave and lead.
Join a network of leaders
No single organisation can deliver the transition our industry needs. UKGBC brings together professionals from across the built environment value chain, creating a trusted environment in which leaders can share experiences, challenge one another, and develop new approaches to common problems. These relationships are an important part of the learning experience – and can continue long after a programme ends through UKGBC’s Leadership Alumni Network. We bring our programme Alumni together regularly to continue learning and knowledge-sharing.
