Problem addressed

The average energy rating for a home in the UK is a D, according to the Office for National Statistics. Many people don’t know where to start or how to best invest in their home to reduce their energy bills and carbon footprint.

Solution overview

Furbnow offers services to help people future-proof their homes and reduce their energy bills. Furbnow creates an easy-to-read home energy plan which shows:

  • An overview of the current performance of the home and how it could improve with specific energy efficiency measures put in place.
  • A detailed breakdown of potential problem areas in the home.
  • The next steps for the project if the customer decides to start the retrofit.
  • A breakdown of the energy efficiency measures that can be installed in the home.

Furbnow will help customers navigate the home upgrade process from start to finish. Customers can choose to take the lead on the retrofit project and get advice from Furbnow, or let Furbnow organise all the contractors and project manage the energy efficiency installations. By using Furbnow’s online platform, customers are able to plan their project, follow the progress, and monitor the savings and return on investment.

Furbnow offers two cost options – online only (the customer fills out a questionnaire and then Furbnow use publicly available data to assess the home) or a visit from an accredited Retrofit Assessor.

  • Online – £100 + VAT
  • 1-2 bed £350 +VAT
  • 3-4 bed £450 +VAT
  • 5+ bed £600 +VAT

Furbnow monitors the effectiveness of the retrofit changes to show return on investment and the energy and emissions reductions.

Case study

A whole-house retrofit of a terraced Victorian house. The house needed total refurbishment to install underfloor heating, air source heat pump, rooftop solar array, solid wall insulation. It took about four months start to finish. The retrofit cost was £40,000 and the house value increased from £80,000 to £130,000. The house is now protected against extreme heat and extreme cold, which is where our climate is going, and where we need to start planning for our homes.
