How can we move beyond individual buildings and individual adaptation measures to create more resilient places?

In their ‘Well-Adapted UK‘, the Climate Change Committee has highlighted the importance of considering buildings, communities and places as interconnected systems when responding to climate change. UKGBC has previously showcased solutions addressing specific climate risks at building level, including overheating, drought and flooding. This innovation showcase will take a step further, exploring how different approaches can be brought together to support climate adaptation and resilience at place scale.

The event will showcase innovative approaches from organisations working across different aspects of place-based resilience. Speakers will share real-world examples of how they are using design, technology, strategic approaches and nature-based solutions to respond to climate risks and create more resilient places.

We will explore different lenses on place-based resilience, including how we can understand and design for resilience at place scale, how landscape and nature can contribute to resilient places, and how technology and innovation can support better decisions and outcomes.

The event will also consider how thinking about regenerative places can take this ambition further. Following the launch of UKGBC’s Regenerative Places Framework for Housing, we will explore how approaches to resilience and adaptation can also support nature, health, wellbeing and thriving communities.
