Co-designing a Scaling Pathway for Microgrids

As part of UKGBC’s Scaling Sustainable Solutions Initiative, we are running a participatory workshop that brings together a diverse range of industry stakeholders to develop a shared vision for the mainstream adoption of microgrids and map a Scaling Pathway that identifies the practical actions, stakeholder roles, and interdependencies to move them from individual projects to widespread deployment across the UK built environment.
The Scaling Pathway will focus on the development and operation of microgrids as well as their integration with energy demand management and renewable energy generation at the local or ‘estate’ level. Emphasis will be placed on microgrids serving new and existing estates, residential developments, and emerging large-load applications such as data centres, due to growing demand.
The pathway will consider the different ownership, commercial and regulatory models that can enable microgrids to be developed and operated. It will also consider the interfaces between microgrids and the wider electricity system, including grid connections, flexibility markets and network constraints.
Participants will take an active role in creating a roadmap that mobilises industry to accelerate the adoption and scaling of high-impact sustainable solutions in this area. It will also give you the opportunity to hear from other experts and make valuable connections with those driving innovation that could lead to future collaborations.
The workshop will be delivered through a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) between UKGBC and the University of the Built Environment, building on insights from research and engagement so far.

This is an invite-only event, but please click on the button below to fill out the form if you have expertise in this area and are interested in getting involved.
