With the incoming uplift to Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES), alongside growing occupier and investor expectations for high-performing buildings, commercial property leaders are under increasing pressure to improve existing assets.

But retrofit is not simply a compliance challenge. Done well, it can improve building performance, strengthen asset value and resilience, and deliver meaningful commercial and sustainability benefits.

On 22 September 2026, UKGBC will convene an exclusive group of senior industry leaders to explore what is already working in the market, where organisations are seeing commercial returns, and what is needed to accelerate retrofit at scale.

The discussion will be hosted by Simon McWhirter, Chief Executive of the UK Green Building Council, alongside senior leaders from across the commercial property sector.

Attendees will have the opportunity to:

  • Understand the changing regulatory landscape and what incoming requirements could mean for commercial property portfolios.
  • Hear what is already working from industry peers implementing retrofit strategies and identify where they are seeing the strongest commercial returns.
  • Explore best-in-class approaches to building optimisation, low-carbon technologies and other scalable retrofit solutions.
  • Connect with senior industry peers facing similar challenges and share experiences in a candid, focused setting.
  • Help shape wider industry work, with insights from the discussion informing UKGBC’s work on innovation and commercial retrofit.

This is an invite-only session for senior decision-makers involved in the ownership, investment and development of commercial buildings.

Places are deliberately limited to enable an open, high-quality discussion between peers and the sharing of practical experiences, challenges and opportunities.
