John Alker, Director of Policy and Places at UKGBC said:

“COP26 provides a unique opportunity for the UK business community to demonstrate its climate leadership, and for us in the construction and property industry to strengthen the hand of negotiators by demonstrating that our sector has the solutions, and can provide support for the policy changes needed to accelerate the pace of change.

“Five years on from the Paris Agreement, Glasgow is the first time that countries will be obliged to report on their plans to ratchet up national carbon commitments. With 40% of the UK’s carbon emissions attributable to the built environment, we know our sector can be at the forefront of the transition to net zero. UKGBC stands ready to bring the industry together at what must be a defining moment in tackling the climate crisis”

UKGBC is hosting a COP26 exclusive member briefing on Monday 24 February to run through specifics on the subject, members can register to attend here.

Members are also encouraged to share their plans for COP26, alongside any relevant projects, event spaces or senior speakers available in Glasgow. Please email john.alker@ukgbc.org to let us know your plans.
