Delivering Biodiversity Net Gain can transform the UK’s built environment – but only if we prevent loopholes

Hannah Giddings, Head of Resilience and Nature at UKGBC said:
We welcome the Government’s latest guidance and draft regulations for Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG), and are encouraged by the clarity and certainty that they offer our members that this policy will go ahead. BNG will enable crucial progress to restore ecosystems and nature habitats across the UK while driving substantial investment into the nature-enhancing industries of the future.
“We are also pleased that the Government has shown important willingness to listen to our sector when it comes to implementing this critical policy, such as by clarifying the self and custom build size exemption that was raised as a potential risk by UKGBC. Together with our members, we look forward to continued close engagement with the Government to prevent any loopholes in the policy’s implementation that could undermine its goals or dilute its impact on the natural environment.”
