In collaboration with Buro Happold Urban C:Lab. UKGBC is running two collaboration cafés to discuss the barriers to impactful offsetting and identify where opportunities can be unlocked.  

About this session

Collab Café – 4th December 2024: Focusing on the public sector (local authorities, combined authorities, and national government), this session will focus on the relationship between the public and private sectors in the use of carbon offsetting funds. Exploring how the spending of this money can be optimised to deliver holistic outcomes for developers and for cities. Whilst also providing the opportunity to collaborate with private sector stakeholders.   

Who should attend (this event is open to UKGBC members and Government officials): 

  • Local authorities with an existing carbon offset fund  
  • Local authorities looking to develop a carbon offset fund 
  • Civil servants
  • Private sector organisations wishing to engage in knowledge sharing with local authorities

Collab Café – 24th October 2024: Focused on the private sector (organisations developing their carbon offsetting strategy), this session will identify the common barriers and approaches to impactful offsetting strategies within organisations. Participants will discuss what developments happening within the space mean for achieving their client priorities and net zero carbon. Such as, the forthcoming Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard and the SBTi’s extension of environmental attribute certificates. Therefore, looking ahead to innovative and systems-thinking approaches to tackle these challenges.

  • Stakeholders from the private sector working on their organisation’s offsetting strategy.  
  • Private sector organisations may include, but are not limited to, engineering and design firms, developers, contractors, product manufacturers, real estate consultancies, and real estate investment trusts.
