Consultation Responses on the future of our energy mix and electricity grid

In August 2023, UKGBC responded to two consultations launched by the Energy Security and Net Zero Select Committee (ESNZ) that wanted answers on the future of our energy mix and electricity grid. UKGBC invited the members of the select committee to consider the two inquiries in relation to one another – stressing there’s a larger systematic question at play about the future of our whole energy system.
The first consultation response was to a call to evidence on the future of our grid and if local solutions are the way forward to ensure a robust grid for the future. UKGBC’s response stresses the importance of flexibility in the grid and the importance of ensure our grid, and communities, are resilient to the impacts of climate change.
The second consultation response was to a call to evidence on how the energy mix of the UK needs to change in the near future in order to ‘keep the power on’ whilst delivering against net zero targets. UKGBC’s response stresses the importance of switching away from fossil fuels, as well as energy efficiency in new and existing buildings.
