Around the World in 80 Case Studies
New dilemmas need new approaches. As the world strives to meet net zero, regenerative, nature-based, green-financed targets and solutions to the climate emergency, have you ever felt like you were doing it all on your own? It is easy to feel disheartened or overwhelmed – or to blame other countries for what they are or are not doing. But the reality is that practitioners like you, all over the world are doing incredible things to take us towards net zero carbon and a restorative built environment. This is the space where we share their learnings and accelerate the change.
By signing up to join our tour around the world you will get to hear first-hand about innovations and breakthroughs, challenges and successes from the people who designed, built, financed and delivered some of the worlds soon-to-be icons. Each quarter we will have 3 case studies from 3 diverse locations all with a unifying theme.
UPDATED – FIRST STOP PARIS!
In this year when all eyes are on Glasgow for COP 2021, we will be following the theme of COP and the story of how the world is decarbonising as we move around the globe. We begin our series at the site of the historic 2015 Paris Agreement where we will be joined by hosts GBC France. There, we will be exploring progress towards decarbonisation of the built environment, innovations that have emerged and barriers that remain.
Alongside speakers from UK and French GBC’s we will have experts deliver presentations looking at specific buildings and examples that are best in class from within Paris and the surrounding region.
Speakers
- Estelle Reveillard, CEO of Alliance HQE-GBC
Estelle’s professional experience is based on networking with professional organisations; especially those taking part in building decarbonisation, sustainable cities and territories. At a European level, she works with building materials networks present in Brussels, particularly on the topic of carbon neutrality so will be an expert guide to our first stop on our world tour.
- Jean-Eric Fournier, Sustainable Development Director at COVIVIO
Jean-Eric will be presenting their SO POP office project. Part of an expanding green portfolio, this project aims to be an inspiring new landmark in Paris’s journey towards becoming a truly sustainable city, with an emphasis on social inclusion, employee wellbeing and circular economy.
- Phillipe Chiambaretta, Architect and Founder at PCA-Stream Architects
Phillipe will present his proposals for the greening of the Champs Elysée. Parisians have fallen out of love with this grand avenue, and Philippe and his team have been exploring whether it can be brought back to life as a balanced urban ecology and delivered by 2030 – a metaphor for our industry’s progress towards a sustainable planet in the same crucial timeframe.
In July we will continue our journey westwards with our next quarterly session set to take place in Central America.
Who should attend
Professionals looking for new inspiration and to learn from those who have already done it.
Why attend
These sessions will use case studies to bring to life concepts key to creating a sustainable (1.5 degree) world. You will learn from those directly involved in the process, hearing about the challenges and successes and tips for those wanting to follow in their footsteps.
The case studies will be presented in detail, addressing why this example is special, what worked well, what could be done differently next time to improve it, and always with an eye to principles and knowledge that are internationally applicable.
There will be an opportunity post-session to engage with experts and connect with peers to develop your networks. It can sometimes feel like an isolating challenge to be forging towards net zero, but the reality is that practitioners like you, all over the world are doing incredible things to take us towards net zero carbon and a restorative built environment. This is the space where we share their learnings and accelerate the change.
There are free Gold Leaf tickets available for this event, please email learning@ukgbc.org for more information.
