Problem addressed

With 4.4 million homes, Local Authorities and Housing Associations play an important role in decarbonisation and must retrofit their housing stock, but they currently lack many of the resources required to do so. Grant funding is severely lacking, and many retrofit solutions that are currently available do not address all of the challenges councils face.

Overview of start-up

NetZed, a joint venture between UHA and GAV, provides a one-stop-shop platform to support Local Authorities and Housing Associations conduct retrofit projects from initial assessments to completion and reporting. Their offerings are available as ‘modules’ which social housing providers can select from depending on their requirements and in-house capabilities. These modules include:

  • Informing stakeholders
  • Analysing home-specific data to select solutions and cost estimates
  • Facilitating access to funding through capital partners and/or government grants
  • Engaging stakeholders, scheduling works, and monitoring progress
  • Coordinating work and overseeing service providers
  • Reporting metrics for auditing, measurement, reporting and improvement.

The platform uses housing data and analytics to ensure that retrofit solutions are tailored to the needs of individual homes, ensuring cost-effectiveness and efficiency. NetZed will also ensure a project’s compliance with building regulations and standards while future-proofing for policy enhancement.

What makes the start-up innovative?

The platform is innovative as it consolidates what is currently a piecemeal and inefficient amalgamation of retrofit solutions. NetZed also provides an opportunity for local councils and housing authorities to retrofit social housing stock while creating revenue and jobs.

How the start-up has been designed to scale-up quickly

NetZed is a scalable platform which can adapt to the needs of every council or authority in the UK. It is also a modular approach so each user can select which area (outreach, engagement, financing, assessment, project management, reporting) it needs.
