Overview Of Start-up
Akustak® is a British-made, patented modular wall system. Serving as an alternative to traditional, resource-intensive interior partitioning, the technology is specified on commercial sound production and podcast studio builds. Institutional clients include the London School of Economics and the Royal Central School of Speech & Drama.
Optimised for resource efficiency and off-site manufacturing, Akustak® minimises material waste during production and assembly. The prefabricated structural units provide complete component portability alongside being engineered for structural disassembly and reuse, embodying core Design for Deconstruction (DfD) principles.
Akustak® has been selected for growth and scale support by the UK Government’s Innovate UK EDGE.
Prefabricated formatting accelerates construction timescales, with on-site installation rates achieving up to 15 sq/m per hour, per installer.
To ensure compliance for architectural specifiers and environmental auditors, Akustak® systems undergo UKAS-accredited laboratory testing. The configurations achieve compliance with Building Regulations Part E (Resistance to Sound) and Part B (Fire Safety), subject to site conditions and project design parameters.

Akustak® features a unique, patented modular design.
This design improves the efficiency of interior wall construction for the following reasons:
- Sustainable Design: Developed for materials optimisation to eliminate over-ordering & site waste, whilst its modular form is engineered for structural disassembly & reuse.
• Precision Engineering: Factory-manufactured to tolerances of 0.5 mm, Akustak® modules seamlessly interconnect & are self-aligning; optimising acoustical performance & minimising rework.
• Dimensional Handling: Measuring < 670 x 1200 mm / < 25 kg per module, Akustak® can be safely manually handled by a single installer (HSE compliant), easily navigating narrow corridors, tight staircases, & standard passenger lifts.
• Assembly & Efficiency: Prefabricated & portable, Akustak® installations are a rapid process of assembly; achieving up to 15 sq/m per hour, per installer.
• Low-Disruption Installation: Manufactured off-site, Akustak® minimises site activities to significantly reduce workspace disruption; limiting noise & dust, whilst elevating health & safety standards.
• System Integration: The system integrates acoustic door-sets, window-sets, & service penetrations. Its structural ply-lining supports surface-mounted fixtures directly (without reinforcements), with pre-engineered fascias available in a range of materials, colours & finishes.
How The Start-up Has Been Designed To Scale Up Quickly
Modules are manufactured to a standardised size (670 mm x 1200 mm); formed entirely of parts dimensionally coordinated with universal sheet/slab sizes. As such, Akustak® is optimised for mass production, supported by two UK-based production hubs.
Operating under the broader Mute Group® framework enabled the successful presentation, commercialisation, and financing of Akustak® from its initial launch phase without requiring substantial outside funding. Strategic licensing opportunities are open for manufacturing and deployment partners.
