Circular Economy Week London

As part of our work on the CIRCuIT programme, we are facilitating sessions at this year’s Circular Economy Week London on the topic of circular construction.
UKGBC-led sessions:
- 09:00 – 09:45: Welcome and panel session, Alastair Mant
- 10:00 – 10:45: Presentation ‘Reuse Across a City’, Lucy Rees (with case studies from George Oates at Expedition Engineering and Allan Sandilands at Resource Futures)
From an embodied carbon perspective, reusing buildings and materials should be our priority. Developing new buildings, however, continues to be the default option. Join UKGBC for a presentation on why we need to start applying reuse principles to project briefs, alongside two reuse case studies from Expedition Engineering and Resource Futures covering lessons learnt and sustainability benefits achieved.
- 11:00 – 11:45: Workshop ‘What Makes a Building Obsolescent’, Alexandra Jonca, Lucy Rees
Could we continue to make and remake our cities using what we already have? Engage with UKGBC and a group of your industry peers in a workshop that asks how to identify and remove planned obsolescence from our built environment. We will explore the factors that influence decisions to demolish, and what interventions might greater enable existing buildings to become critical components of urban regeneration.
