Problem Addressed

Urecsys directly addresses the challenge of exposure to urban air pollution, which according to the World Health Organization causes 7 million deaths every year – 12% of all deaths worldwide.

Air pollution creates many illnesses, such as different types of cancer, cardiovascular diseases, asthma, lung and respiratory diseases, infertility, as well as interfering with foetal development, and increasing infant mortality and birth defects. People spend 90% of their time indoors where exposure to air pollution can have a significant impact on their health and well-being.

Since there was no solution to this major public health risk, practically every building in the urban environment suffers from bad air quality – exactly the challenge Urecsys has put front and center to overcome. Every employer or employee deserves to have better air quality throughout the day, and Urecsys’ unique approach to this largely unaddressed health risk can provide an effective solution to this issue for any office building around the globe, even the ones located in the most polluted areas. Urecsys can help create a healthier work environment by reducing the public’s exposure to hazardous air pollution within buildings and protect buildings against the penetration of such pollutants.

Overview Of Start-up

Urecsys is an environmental health technology pioneer that has developed a smart, all round solution for (a) improving air quality indoors and reducing indoor air pollution, (b) effective and unique protection against the penetration of urban air pollution into buildings, (c) efficient air quality management, including energy conservation in the building and full compliance with international standards. Urecsys’ technology is based on an innovative scientific approach, which has proven to deal effectively with common and hazardous air pollutants: small gaseous pollutants and ultrafine particles, which cannot be filtered out. Urecsys’ patent approved, green & sustainable technology protects the building’s inhabitants from hazardous outdoor air pollution, all while reducing the building’s related emissions of greenhouse gases & providing significant energy conservation.

What Makes The Start-up Innovative

Urecsys uses an IoT (Internet of Things) infrastructure, a unique air pollution analysis method with smart machine learning algorithms, in order to control the building’s “breathing” function – it’s HVAC systems. It remotely regulates the BMS in order to reduce the penetration of polluted air into the building, resulting in a drastic air pollution reduction inside buildings of approximately 40%.

The patent-protected technology uses extensive big-data analysis, machine learning and data-rich scientific algorithms. This includes smart prediction and calculations of the air pollution levels, real-time analysis of air pollution trends, online and historical pollution data, while taking into account unique chemical, physical and health related variables.

Whilst regulating HVAC systems, it optimizes every aspect of the building’s air supply in real time, as well as efficiently utilizing and optimizing the climate control systems of the building. The technology ensures significant energy conservation and GHG emissions reduction as well as full compliance with international standards. The system is fully automated and integrates into buildings of all scales with no maintenance required by customers.

Implementing Urecsys allows for a reduction of employee sick-days, heightened productivity and better cognitive functionality of all employees due to the reduction of air pollutants (based on scientific studies and empirical data). The contribution to energy conservation has been proven to be substantial, with 70-80% of customers paying off the installation by energy conservation alone (in accordance with Israeli climate, electricity rate and standard building sizes).

How The Start-up Has Been Designed To Scale Up Quickly

Urecsys’ target market includes every building which is equipped with a central ventilation system (most of the offices, non-residential buildings) that have no indoor source of pollution or contamination (such as laboratories). For example – the total commercial space relevant to Urecsys in North America & Europe is approx. 5 billion SQM, all of which can potentially be covered by Urecsys.

Both private and public sector buildings are potential prospects. In the public sector, Urecsys has governmental and municipal buildings, schools and university campuses, military bases and defence industries. In the private sector, Urecsys has Multinational corporate buildings, shared workspace office buildings, hotels, retirement homes etc.

Urecsys can further scale up through:

* Reaching cooperation agreements with strategic distributors: Facility Management providers (JLL, CBRE, etc.), Building Management System suppliers (Honeywell, Samsung, LG, etc.) & HVAC manufacturers (Carrier, Goodman, Electra, etc.), all of which are based on revenue share models, upscale potential & innovative positioning.

* Direct sales to end customers, both in private and public sectors, in multiple channels of reach (word of mouth, lateral growth, cold calls, digital marketing and more)

* Indirect influence via collaboration with air quality and ventilation consultants, green building consultants, and academic publications.
