Problem Addressed

More than 2M Australians, 5 million British, 15M Americans, and 300M Europeans live in low and medium rise apartment buildings, with the roof space for solar but, until recently, no way of accessing energy generated from it.

Overview Of Start-up

Allume’s vision is a world where everyone can access clean and affordable energy from the sun.

Until now, previous options involved installing individual solar systems into each unit – a largely unworkable solution for developers due to cost, footprint and inefficient energy utilisation. SolShare is the world’s only technology for connecting multiple residential units within a single building to a single rooftop solar PV system.

The SolShare makes rooftop solar easy and affordable to install on multi-tenanted buildings, enabling tenants to reduce their electricity bills and carbon footprint. The technology connects multiple flats to a single rooftop solar system behind-the-meter.

Allume’s customers span a range of industries including social housing providers, multi-family landlords, property developers and apartment owners.

With an established market in Australia, Allume is now rapidly growing in the UK and the US.

What Makes The Start-up Innovative

SolShare is the only hardware in the world to connect multiple flats to a single rooftop solar system. The SolShare system maximises savings and consumption by responding to each participant’s instantaneous usage, directing the solar to where it’s needed.

Futhermore the SolShare solution is highly tailorable for the customer’s needs. The kWp associated to each flat can be determined by the customer to align with their goals. Often, they will specify a higher kWp to flats that need a bigger boost in their SAP score to achieve a certain EPC rating. Typically, Allume Energysee between 0.5 – 2.5 kWp specified per flat, which achieves a 15-30% reduction in grid energy usage and consequently CO2 emissions.

How The Start-up Has Been Designed To Scale Up Quickly

The SolShare is fully certified for installation in the UK with the UKCA mark. It has been approved for installation by every UK DNO following a roundtable facilitated by the Energy Networks Association. The system has also been presented to the MCS and systems can be MCS certified.

Allume Energy is able to scale up quickly and rapidly expand with the demand across the whole of the UK. SolShare can be sold to traditional solar installers who install complete solar systems to include SolShare.
