Race to Zero: How to get on the starting line
Join UKGBC, the UN Climate Champions team and industry partners to explore how to take climate action as an organisation, and demonstrate leadership through the Race to Zero campaign.
The Race to Zero (RtZ) is a global campaign to rally leadership and support from businesses, cities, region and investors for a healthy, resilient, zero carbon recovery that prevents future threats, creates decent jobs, and unlocks inclusive, sustainable growth. In April 2021, UKGBC called on all of its members to join the Race to Zero, with Gold Leaf members expected to sign up within a year of this announcement.
This requires organisations across the building value chain – from architects and engineers to developers and investors – to commit to reduce their carbon emissions by at least half by 2030, and reach net zero by 2050 at the latest. Winning the race will require cross-industry collaboration, building on the findings from the Net Zero Whole Life Carbon Roadmap.
This session is intended to provide additional guidance and support to help UKGBC members get to the RtZ starting line and share experiences from those that have already begun the race.

- How to sign up to a relevant initiative as a built environment organisation.
- How to take credible action using the Five ‘P’s: Pledge, Plan, Proceed, Publish, Persuade.
- How this relates to other relevant initiatives, for example, the Net Zero Carbon Buildings Commitment and BBP Climate Change Commitment.
Attendees will gain insights from recognised RtZ Partner organisations and UKGBC members that have already signed up to RtZ.
