UKGBC and Landsec scoop CIBSE L&D award
Sustainability Matters is a bespoke training programme for Landsec staff which was co-developed by the L&D specialists at UKGBC.
The programme offers an introduction to sustainability for all Landsec employees through a specially-developed interactive online course, which features best-practice examples from within the business and throughout the sector. This module has racked-up a 100% completion rate and forms part of the induction process for all new staff.
The programme also offers targeted training sessions for key business functions in the form of workshop style modules and masterclasses, which cater for intermediate and advanced level learners.
So far, the programme has trained 564 employees and recorded 1507 learning hours.
Now in their eleventh year, the CIBSE Building Performance Awards recognise the people, products and projects that demonstrate engineering excellence in the built environment. This is the first year that the awards have featured a category recognising excellence in L&D, and the organisers described this new award as the most hotly contested category of the night.
UKGBC’s Director of Learning and Innovation, Cat Hirst, said:
“We’re thrilled to be the first to receive this CIBSE Award for this bespoke L&D collaboration, there was some very tough competition and it was fantastic to see some really great examples of L&D happening right across the sector.
“UKGBC Gold Leaf member Landsec have demonstrated a real leadership position in sustainability, by upskilling their entire workforce and equipping them with the skills to realise the benefits of truly sustainable business. Here at UKGBC our goal is to educate and inspire as many people as possible and one of the ways we do that is by working with our members to embed sustainability thinking throughout their business.”
The CIBSE Awards judges commented:
“Sustainability Matters covers every aspect of sustainable design, hitting every point and showing real commitment to delivering sustainable learning for Landsec’s staff. We applaud it.”
Also at the awards, UKGBC Gold Leaf member BuroHappold Engineering was presented with two awards, for Building Performance Consultancy and Energy Efficient Innovation. Other UKGBC members picking up awards on the night included: Architype and BDP who scooped the Commercial/Industrial Project of the Year award for The Enterprise Centre; Max Fordham took home Leisure Project of the Year for Oriam; Elementa won International Project of the Year for their work at Pomona College in California; Willmott Dixon nabbed the Public Use Project of the Year for the Centre for Medicine at the University of Leicester; and the University of Oxford took home two awards, Building Performance Champion and Facilities Management Team.
