Future event

This session will be run by the UKGBC policy team to gather members’ views on the proposed reforms to the planning system. Please familiarise yourself with the government’s consultation beforehand so you are able to effectively express your views in this session. The full consultation can be found here.
Key points we intend to focus on
Proposed revisions to the NPPF
to streamline planning policy are highly focused on creating a more rules-based, growth-focused planning system with new mandatory standard method for assessing housing needs.
Includes greater emphasis
on urban intensification and density alongside revisions to ‘grey belt’, green belt and land-use rules.
Proposes the introduction
of permanent presumption in favour of sustainable development which is good.
Proposal to limit Local Authorities’ ability
to set energy efficiency requirements higher than national regulation which is very concerning and would undermine local leadership on climate action.
